Summer Adventures with Zinc: Big Fun Without the Big Spend
At Zinc, we’re all about getting kids moving, building confidence, and making memories. We know how full on the summer holidays can be for parents, and how tricky it can be to keep kids busy, active and away from screens.
That’s why we’ve pulled together a list of fun, budget-friendly summer adventures to help you and your little explorers make the most of the last few weeks of summer. These activities are all tried, tested and loved by the Zinc team and we hope they’ll help fill your summer with smiles.
1. Go on a Colour Walk (…or Scoot!)
Pick a colour and hit the pavement! Whether you're walking, scooting or biking, challenge your child to spot as many things in your chosen colour as possible. Take photos, count items or just enjoy being fully present and observant in your surroundings.
Top Tip: Set a goal, like 25 objects in your chosen colour (or just go until energy runs out!) A great mindfulness activity for all ages.
2. Make Tape Bracelets
Simple and sweet! Wrap a piece of clear tape around your child’s wrist (sticky side out), and let them collect little flowers, leaves or grass as decorations while out exploring.
It’s sensory, creative and a great way to turn a walk or scoot into an adventure. Bring your scooter along for tired little legs!
3. Pick Your Own Fruit
Late summer is perfect for blackberry picking, you’ll find them in hedgerows across the UK. Or head to a local fruit farm, where you can often pick your own berries for just the cost of what you take home.
Bonus activity: Use your haul to bake a pie, make smoothies or create your own fruit skewers.
4. Try a Nature Hunt Bingo
Print or draw a simple bingo card with things to find in nature, a ladybird, a pine cone, a feather, a butterfly, a spider web. Then head to your local park or green space and see who can tick off the most!
This one’s great for siblings or playdates and turns any walk into a mission.
5. Build a Garden Obstacle Course
Use what you’ve got, hula hoops, skipping ropes, plant pots, chalk, even cardboard boxes and let your kids design their own obstacle course. The building is half the fun and it helps develop problem solving, coordination and confidence.
Add a timer to turn it into a challenge!
6. Host a Teddy Bear Picnic
This one’s a classic for a reason. Pack up some snacks and some teddies, and head to the garden or your local park for a laid-back afternoon with your child’s favourite cuddly companions.
Even just going around the corner can feel like a big adventure to little ones.
Adventure is Everywhere
At Zinc, we believe adventures don’t need to be expensive or elaborate. Sometimes, all it takes is a little creativity, a scooter by your side and a willingness to explore.
Whether you’re scooting through the streets on a colour hunt or racing around your homemade obstacle course, we hope these ideas help you create memories that last way beyond the summer holidays.
